If it still looks okay (handsewn seams are indicative of the Nerd), you have almost certainly caught yourself a Nerd/archaeologi…st. If you’re still not convinced, ask them what they’re wearing. If the answer is “I’m wearing a Houppelande taken from les très riches heures de Duc de Berry in melton wool, pure wool of course, and lined with miniver” then you know you’re talking to the nerd. Good documentation is clearly indicative of the nerd. What makes the nerd tick is a genuine desire to explore his or her period, and if the historical sources are scarce they might use an ethnografical paralell or some experimental archaeology, but they’ll always be quick to point it out to the modern attendants of the events.
